Why you might not succeed in 2013
How different our lives are when we really know what is deeply important to us, and keeping that picture in mind, we manage ourselves each day to be and to do what really matters most. – Stephen Covey
Yes, you read that right. 90% of you reading this post will not be as successful as you would like in 2013. Why? Two simple reasons. Firstly, because you don’t want it bad enough! And secondly, you are over complicating life.
As someone in the sales and marketing business, I see it every single day. Nail Tech’s, Therapists and Stylists who opened their own business because they thought that being their own boss would make them more money, give them more time and more freedom. It’s everyone’s dream – but when it comes time to take action, however, everyone seems to make excuses or they just keep doing things that keep them busy without getting them closer to what they want. So how do you make sure that you don’t fail in 2013?
“Write down what you want”
The things that make you successful are easy to do. The problem is that they are also easy not to do. For instance, writing down your goals and reading them every day, that’s really easy to do. The problem is that it is also easy not to do, so 90% of the people reading this won’t take the time to write down their goals because …………………… (You can fill in the blank with any lame excuse like, I can’t find a pen, my favourite shows on TV etc, etc, etc…)
Why is it so important to write down your goals and read them every day? Because you become what you think about. You and I don’t spend nearly enough time thinking about what we want or how to get it! The more time you spend thinking about what you want, the more solutions you will find to help you get what you want.
Your Beauty Business also needs to be guided and directed by your goals. Because your business is the vehicle to help you achieve more money, more time, more freedom etc. If you don’t know what your goals are, how will your business help you reach them?
Start using the power of saying NO!”
As we head into 2013, your biggest challenge as a Salon Owner, wife, mother, and employer is learning how to say “no.” If your life is anything like mine; it’s full to the brim and mostly overflowing. Way too much to do, and not nearly enough time to do it in. I am sure this sounds familiar?
You and I have exactly 24 hours in a day. And guess what? So does Donald Trump, Oprah the beggar on the street corner. We are all the same in this regard, however, some of us know how to manage our time better than others. The secret is to focus on things that give you the best return on your time and say no to everything else. So at the end of the day, the most important thing you can do is to effectively managing your time. Which in essence is nothing more than knowing when to say “yes” and when to say “no”.
So, after writing out and clarifying your goals here is the next thing you must learn to do. If you don’t get this right, you won’t succeed in 2013.
IDENTIFY THE FEW CRITICAL TASKS THAT CONTRIBUTE MOST TO YOUR SALONS SUCCESS AND SCHEDULE THEM WITH VERY SHORT DEADLINES.
In other words, focus on doing the right things (be effective) and do them as quickly as possible. (Be efficient) Make sure that you complete your critical tasks before 11am every morning. Don’t read’ your emails, don’t multitask and don’t get distracted until your critical tasks are done for the day.
“Going forward…”
Think about it. There are millions of people in this world. I can guarantee you right now while you’re thinking about your goals (or lack there of), there is another person out there chasing after them with all they’ve got. There’s only one thing you can control in your life–your own effort. So if you want to give yourself and your company the best chance of success, work harder. Making more of an effort is not the same thing as working longer. It’s working better-setting goals and getting results.
Research your competitors- Find out what they’re doing right, and also what they can improve on. Use this to your advantage.
Outwork your competition- Sure they might already be successful, but many people also get comfortable when they hit success. Take advantage of this and outwork them.
Get the knowledge you need to build your Salon. Don’t miss out on Salon Management Studio’s upcoming business bootcamps and training workshops.
Find your passion and stay motivated- Again, keep your written goals nearby.
Use tools to make the job easier. Remember that Salon Studio CRM and Salon Studio POS are simply tools. If you don’t use them, they can’t help you, so get your software setup, keep your database accurate and use your system on a daily basis.
Sacrifice- Be willing to sacrifice something you enjoy or want to do so that you can reap the rewards from spending that time on your passion.
I just wrote down my wants and goals. Right NOW
